Hope, Joy, and Family
Our NPH founder, Fr. William Wasson, often reflected on the prayer of St. Francis, which was so important to him. In it, we are reminded that where there is hatred, despair, and darkness - we are to be instruments of love, hope, and light.
Again this past year, our NPH family has faced extraordinary challenges. These challenges have been felt organizationally and individually. Our children and our staffs have felt the sting of present budget concerns, the isolation and uncertainty of the continuing pandemic, the devastation of natural disasters, and even the shock and violation of kidnapping.
Yet, pulling together in times of challenge is what families do, and this family you are part of, the NPH family, has marshalled its knowledge, experience, resources and determination to love and serve our children.
Your support has enabled the remarkable NPH staff to perform at the highest level, providing stability and support for nearly 7,000 vulnerable children, youth and families living in our homes and local communities.
We have provided 5,500 children with an education – from kindergarten to university – helping to break the cycle of poverty and offering the promise of a brighter future to each of them.
NPH has provided more than 19,000 consultations by health care providers at our clinics and treated thousands of children and mothers at St. Damien Pediatric Hospital in Haiti. We have helped rebuild homes shattered by an earthquake in Haiti and rebuilt lives devastated by hurricanes in Honduras.
Truly, in so many ways, our response continues to live out the challenge of St. Francis – that in loving, we are loved; in consoling, we are consoled; and in giving, we receive.
Family is who you share your life with…
Have you noticed that we often refer to NPH as a family?

Family provides love, security, acceptance and belonging. Family sacrifices and family supports.
Each of you reading this - through your love, prayer, and support - are family to the children we care for each day – and they are family to you.
This sense of family – this sense of belonging – is what differentiates NPH. Across our homes and programs over the past year we have seen the beauty of our NPH family. Here are just a few examples:
In the Dominican Republic, our NPH Family celebrated with the proudest group of recent graduates you have ever seen.
They are a strong, loving, and faith-filled family, even amidst the most difficult circumstances.

In Honduras, we care for more than 400 youth, including 121 with chronic conditions, including children who have significant special needs and will likely live with us for their entire lives.
This includes Serena who is 33 years old now and has lived with us for 20 years… and our newest arrival, Samantha who has been with us only a few months.
We are family for Serena and Samantha and will continue to be for as long as they will need us.
In Guatemala, we are family to entire families - like the Sánchez family.
You are family to each of them, helping to propel their futures. They are a strong, loving, and faith-filled family, even amidst the most difficult circumstances.
They care for each other, pray with each other and sacrifice for each other. And, while they may not have much, no family should be separated simply because of poverty.
So NPH continues to be family to them through our “One Family” program.
Their oldest daughter, Melinda, and her brother, Rodrigo, used to live at our home in Parramos. Now through the NPH “One Family” program they have been reunited as a loving extended family who NPH continues to support.
Our team cares for the Sánchez family and dozens of other community families, with regular weekly visits, food and nutrition help, educational materials, counseling support, and in so many other ways.
We even delivered Rodrigo a new laptop so he can continue in his studies.
Every family goes through tough times. And through those times, family supports, endures, adapts, and overcomes – together. Challenging times help prepare us for the future.
The challenges of this past year have brought to the fore the talent, faithfulness, dedication, and commitment of our entire NPH Family – our children, our leadership, our staff and, in a special way, our supporters. As NPH continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of the communities and countries we serve - providing protection, prevention and preparation for vulnerable children and families - we are filled with gratitude for the commitment and dedication of our amazing family.
NPH USA supporters have responded generously during this turbulent time and your support has sustained our family. As we embrace this season of change across our world and in our work, we are truly grateful for the wonderfully faithful and generous support you have provided this past year in helping care for our family.
On behalf of the thousands of children, whose lives you help transform and whose dreams you empower, we are profoundly grateful.
